Scope
This privacy policy applies to the Backyard Sap & Maple Syrup Android app and iOS app. The app is also named Backyard Sap Tracker and Sap Tracker. Mandy Amanda, LLC develops and publishes the app.
Data the app stores on your device
The app stores the data you enter on your device. This data includes:
- Trees, taps, and tap dates
- Sap collections and Brix readings
- Boil sessions and syrup output
- Weather records and flow day overrides
- Fees and settings
- Your saved location, which is a latitude and longitude, a postal code, or a city name
Mandy Amanda, LLC does not operate a server for the app. Mandy Amanda, LLC does not receive, collect, or store any data that you enter in the app. The app does not require an account.
Location data
The app asks for permission to use your device location. The app uses your location only to get weather data and sap flow forecasts for your area. You can deny the location permission and enter a postal code or a city name instead.
When you use GPS, the app reads your device coordinates one time and saves them in the app on your device. The app does not track your location in the background.
Third-party services
The app sends your location to the services in this list to get weather data and to convert a postal code or city name into coordinates:
- Open-Meteo: The app sends your latitude and longitude to get weather forecasts and historical weather. The app sends a city name to the Open-Meteo geocoding service to get coordinates. Privacy policy: https://open-meteo.com/en/terms
- National Weather Service: If you select the National Weather Service as your weather source, the app sends your latitude and longitude to get weather forecasts. Privacy policy: https://www.weather.gov/privacy
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim: The app sends a postal code or city name to get coordinates. The app also sends your GPS coordinates to get the name of your area. Privacy policy: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
- Zippopotam.us: If Nominatim cannot find a Canadian postal code, the app sends the postal code to Zippopotam.us to get coordinates. Website: https://www.zippopotam.us
Each service also receives your device IP address as part of the network request. Each service handles this data under its own privacy policy. The app sends no other personal data to these services.
Data the app does not collect
The app does not use analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or tracking tools. The app does not sell or share your data for advertising. The app does not use your data to identify you.
Backups
The app saves a backup file named sap-tracker-backup.json in the Documents/SapTracker folder on your Android device. The app uses this file to restore your data after a reinstall.
Android Auto Backup can copy the app data to your Google account if backup is turned on in your device settings. Google stores this copy under the Google privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. Mandy Amanda, LLC cannot access this copy.
You can export your data as a JSON file or a CSV file. You choose where the exported file is saved or shared.
Data security
The app sends all requests to third-party services over HTTPS. Your app data stays in the app storage on your device, and Android restricts that storage to the app. Anyone with access to your unlocked device can open the app and see your data.
Data retention and deletion
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can delete your data with any of these actions:
- Delete individual records in the app.
- Clear the app data in your device settings.
- Uninstall the app.
- Delete the
Documents/SapTrackerfolder on your Android device. - Delete the app backup from your Google account in your device backup settings.
Mandy Amanda, LLC holds no copy of your data, so Mandy Amanda, LLC has no data to delete on request.
Children’s privacy
The app is not directed at children under the age of 13. Mandy Amanda, LLC does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
Mandy Amanda, LLC will post any change to this policy at this URL and will update the date at the top of this page.
